Scope and Contents of the Materials
The files and publications collected by Neel Parikh (1973-85), ALA Councilor (1998-2002) and member of the Association for Library Service to Children and the Public Library Association, includes bibliographies (1973-84), articles, policies, Social Responsibilities Round Table resolutions (1978-81, 1983), publications, and speeches relating to intellectual freedom and censorship in children's literature, sexism and racism censorship, book selection polcies, and women in librarianship, also contains a transcript of an interview with Parikh (1992).
Biographical Note
Neel Parikh received her master's in library science from the University of California Berkeley. She was the executive director of the Pierce County Library System in Washington State until 2014 and was previously the coordinator of children's services for the San Francisco Public Library. She has been active in ALA, the Association for Library Service to Children, the Public Library Association, and the Washington Library Association. She served on the PLA Board of Directors and was a member of ALA Council from 1998-2002.
