Scope and Contents of the Materials

Library postcard collection of Daniel W. Lester contains over 6,000 pictorial and photographic postcards of libraries mostly from the United States, and international postcards from Australia, Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Saint Lucia, Slovenia, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. Subjects include public libraries, private libraries, university and college libraries, Carnegie library buildings, library interiors and reading rooms, art displayed at libraries, government libraries, presidential libraries, historical society libraries, museums, and archives, includes library postcards sent to Mr. Lester with personal messages on them.

Biographical Note

Daniel Lester was born on February 5, 1943 in California. He graduated from Northern Illinois University and the University of Chicago. He worked at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, the University of Mexico in Albuquerque, Fort Lewis College, and Boise State University. He retired in 2008 and passed in 2021 in Utah. Lester was an active collector of library collectibles, including posters, postcards, plates, and spoons.
