Personal papers of Rocco Staino, Director of the Ulster County (NY) Board of Educational Services, School Library System (1985- ), former president of New York Library Association (2004-05), member of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and and former Sponsorship Chair of the AASL National Conference Committee (2007), contains AASL conference materials (1992-2007), ALA publicity materials (1984-2003), Friends of Libraries materials (1995-2005), White House Conference on Library and Information Science Conference II delegate preparation materials, issue briefing book, and videotape (1991), collection of t-shirts, pins, mugs, coasters, and badges from ALA and AASL annual conferences (c. 1983-2016), and pamphlets on libraries and librarianship (1955-65).
Biographical Note
Rocco Staino is a journalist and the Director of the Ulster County New York Board of Educational Services School Library System (1985-), director of the Empire State Center for the Book (2010-), former president of the New York Library Association (2004-05), member of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), and former Sponsorship Chair of the AASL National Conference Committee (2007). He was a contributing editor for School Library Journal (2006-18) and a writer for The Huffington Post (2011-17). He also hosted the interview show StoryMakers for KidLit.TV (2014-22). Rocco served as the retired director for the Keefe Library of the North Salem School District in New York. He has been a long time member of the American Library Association (ALA), served as chair of the Retired Member Round Table (RMRT) from 2023-2024, has served as New York State Chapter Councilor on ALA’s Council, and was a member of the ALA Committee on Committees for 2015.
