Biographical Note
Katherine Laich was born on January 24, 1910. She earned an A.B. in Latin and English from Wilson College in 1930 and a B.S. in Library Science from the University of Southern California in 1942 [1]. In addition to serving as president of ALA from 1972 to 1973 [2], she was also on its executive board from 1964 to 1968, on its council in 1958 and from 1963 to 1968, chairwoman of the Committee on Organization from 1961 to 1964, and chairwoman of the Nominating Committee from 1969 to 1970. Additionally, she was also the president of the Southern California Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) in 1947 and was chairwoman of three committees of the California Library Association from 1956 to 1957 [1]. She died on November 16, 1992 [2].
