Papers of Carolyn I. Whitenack (1916- ), AASL President (1968) and member of Board of Directors (1955-60), including correspondence, memoranda, minutes and reports concerning the AASL Board of Directors and Committees and joint committees on awards, cataloging, school library programs, legislation, professional status, publications, standards and the Knapp School Libraries Manpower project. The series includes correspondence with the AASL presidents and executive secretaries who preceded and followed Carolyn Whitenack.
Biographical Note
Carolyn I. Whitenack was born in 1916 in Harrodsberg, Kentucky. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky in 1948. She was an instructor and librarian at the university from 1947-1950. Then she was the head of the Cataloging Department and School Library Services in the Louisville public schools, eventually becoming the director of the Division of School Libraries and Teaching Materials of the Indiana Department of Public Instruction (1953-56). In 1956, Whitenack received her M.S. at the University of Illinois. She spent the rest of her career at Purdue University, retiring in 1979 (1).
