Hammer (1973-86) and Linda Knutson (1987-96) including articles, library automation bibliographies (1967-77), correspondence, press releases (1967-1981), publications, reports, surveys and files on committee work, discussion groups and sections, relating to bylaws and organization; education; executive committee; financial development; leadership; legislation and regulation; library automation and technology; membership; program planning; scholarship; ISAD tutorials on system design and machine functions, and institutes and workshops including MARC (1967-72; 1989-94), Aspects of Library Automation (1970-80), School Library Automation (1970) and Networks (1975-77); reports for MARBI and the IFLA Working Group on content designators (1973-76; 1986-93); and the Video & Cable Communications Section Surveys of Video Use in Libraries. The series also includes ISAD/LITA Institute registration brochures (1967-80), Division Leadership Program files (1987-92), and national conference files (1982-83, 1988-89; 1992). The series also includes completed survey forms for the Joint Survey of Library Automation Activities (SLA/ALA, 1966) showing institutional size, current automation applications and plans. The Joint Survey formed part of the Library subcommittee of the American Society for Testing Materials (1967-76), the Committee on Library Automation (COLA) (1964-72), the Interlibrary Communications Information Networks (1968-70), Roster (1982, 1985, 1987-93, 1995-97) and a history of ISAD (1964-70).

Biographical Note

The Information Science and Automation Division (ISAD) was established on January 28, 1966 to deal with the development and application of electronic data processing techniques and the use of automated systems in all areas of library work (1).

In January 1978 the names was changed to Library and Information Technology Association (LITA). Its new function was to concern itself with the development and application of automated systems analysis and design, electronic data processing techniques, communications technology, and related technological developments in all areas of library work. Within these fields, the Division fosters research, promotes the development of appropriate standards, disseminates information, and provides a forum for the discussion of common problems (2).

Division was dissolved on September 1, 2020, and merged into a new division, Core.
