Community Information Section | The American Library Association Archives
Name: Community Information Section
Historical Note: By the late 1970's, community information programs and services in public libraries were growing at a rapid pace. The PLA, through the creation of another section, the Community Information Section (CIS), hoped to boost visibility of these information programs and services and precipitate give-and-take among public librarians involved in this area. The CIS was officially approved by the PLA Board of Directors at the 1980 ALA Midwinter Conference at Chicago (1).
