At the Annual Meeting held in Washington, D.C., on June 29, 1998, EMIE changed its name to Ethnic and Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table (EMIERT) to reflect the more encompassing tasks now undertaken by this Round Table.
EMIE's objectives are:

2. To organize task forces, institutes, and workshops to carry out the functions of the Round Table
3. To develop for annual conferences, forums, symposia, and programs that deal with the key issues of ethnicity and librarianship
4. To maintain a liaison with the Office of Library Outreach Services and cooperate with other ALA units, including the caucuses in INT projects for betterment of outreach services
5. To disseminate the work of the Round Table through a program of publications (2).
