Staff Organizations Round Table (SORT) | The American Library Association Archives
In May 1936, a group of members of staff organizations met and organized SORT (1). In 1937, the ALA Conference passed a resolution to formally organize SORT as a Round Table (2). The purpose of SORT is to encourage the formation of staff organizations, to act as a clearinghouse for information about staff organizations, to bring staff organizations of library employees into closer relationships so as to foster mutual cooperation, and to cooperate with all ALA units that are set up to study and act upon personnel matters (3).
