Scope and Contents: 2455 slides from 10 slides boxes with different sizes, alongside some loose ephemera materials. A collection of documents about the social political context and background from Mainland China from mid 1970s to late 1980s. Of interests are Fang’s focus on the relationship between libraries, the librarians and the users; infrastructure of book stores; libraries in academies; middle schools; various kinds of factories; and cadre schools and communes, from regions such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Changchun, Kunming, Harbin, Lijiang, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Wuhan, and Nanjing. Libraries covered in depth are Peking National Library, Tsinghua University Library, Library of Peking Nationalities Institute, Shanghai Public Library, Library of Jilin University, Kunming New Provincial Library, and Teacher’s College Library in Kunming. In addition to documentations of libraries, the archive also includes documentation of various factories and schools, such as arts and crafts factory, optical factory, textile factory, pencil factory, car factory, nursery and middle schools.
