Biographical Note for Archives and Libraries (1935-1957) :

The formation of this committee was proposed in August 1935 (1). The purpose would be to show the correlation between archival and library science, and how certain skills and techniques are applicable to each or how they differ (2). Towards this end, a round table discussion was held at the American Library Association's Mid-Winter meeting on December 30, 1935 (3). The committee continued from that date, performing its original function: to address concerns held in common by archivists and librarians. It was abolished in August 1957, with the caveat that some sort of INT committee should be established between the American Library Association and the society of American Archivists "to explore relations between the two groups" (4).
