Selection of the books was made by the Public Library Division (1945-51) and by the Notable Books Council, Adult Services Division (1961- ). The series includes Lasting Books 1944-1964 (1967). The series also includes correspondence and subject files (1988-95) for the Council Chair, Marilyn Sounders, and for the Publicity Subcommittee (1992-96) and Publishing Committee (1995-96). Includes history articles (1956-94), member lists, press releases, Literary Tastes breakfast guidelines (1993), and ethical guidelines for the council (1993-94).
