Biographical Note
Bernadine E. Abbott Hoduski was born in New Deal, Montana in 1938, and she has been an ALA member since 1964. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Avila University in 1959 and a Masters in Librarianship from the University of Denver, Colorado in 1965. She served as the children’s librarian at the Kansas City Public Library from 1959 to 1960. She has served as lecturer or assistant professor at multiple higher education institutions, has been a published author since 1995, and served as a member of professional staff on the U.S. Congress Joint Committee on Printing from 1974 to 1997. She was a founding member of the ALA Government Documents Round Table (GODORT) and served as its chair from 1973 to 1974. In 1999, she was elected as GODORT’s first Councilor to ALA. Other achievements include the bronze medal for commendable service from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (1973) and the James Bennett Childs Award for distinguished contributions to documents librarianship from the ALA Government Documents Round Table (1973). After retiring in 1997, Abbott Hoduski continues her work ensuring public access to government information.
