Biographical Note
Maurice J. (Mitch) Freedman earned a M.L.S. and Ph.D in library and information science [1]. Over his career, he has held various positions at the Library of Congress, the Information Dynamics Corporation, and the Hennepin County (Minn.) Library [2]. In 2005, he retired from his position as the Director of the Westchester (NY) Library System after 23 years [3]. He was Director of the New City Library from 2013 to 2015 [4]. He has been a consultant and speaker for the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Information Service, and he has also taught in library and information science programs at Columbia University, the Pratt Institute, and Rutgers University. He was President of ALA from 2002 to 2003. In 2014, he received the 2014 Joseph W. Lippincott Award [2].
