Biographical Note
D. Edith Wallbridge Carr was born in North East, Pennsylvania, on October 2, 1854, and graduated from Hillsdale College in Michigan. She became the Assistant State Librarian of the Illinois State Library. In 1882, she joined the American Library Association and attended 42 conferences in her lifetime. In 1886, she married Henry Carr and resigned from the Illinois State Library. She relocated to Scranton, PA, with her husband, where he became the city's first public librarian. She held memberships many organizations, several with an emphasis in genealogy. In June 1930, Carr was awarded an honorary degree from her alma mater, Hillsdale. She died in Scranton on December 9, 1940
