In 1989, Reid became one of the founding faculty members at the California State University San Marcos campus. She was instrumental in developing the university library, retiring as Kellogg Library dean on September 9, 2009.
Reid also held several leadership positions in the RTSD/ALCTS, including Vice President (1986/87), President (1987/88), and Past President (1988/89). During Reid’s tenure, the organization successfully navigated both fiscal crisis and staff turnover and changed its name from Resources and Technical Services Division (RTSD) to Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS).
