Scope and Contents of the Materials

Subject files of the Periodicals Section (1927-36), Serials Section (1937-47) and Serials Round Table (1948-56), contains correspondence, reports, committee records, includes annual reports (1926-56), minutes, texts of speeches (1926-53), and files on the Clearinghouse Project (1954-56), indexing and abstracting (1937-39, 1956), merger with RTSD (1954-56) and nominating committee, (1955), includes files of the executive committee (1959-90), Serials Policy and Research Committee (1958-70, 1991-92), RSTD Board of Directors (1959-60), Committee to Study Serials Records (1983-88), Regional Serials Workshops Committee (1978-88), and Worst Serial Title Change of the Year (1983-2004). Note: in 1956, the Serials Round Table became the Serials Section of RTSD.

Biographical Note

The object of the Serials Section (SS) is to contribute to library service and librarianship through the distribution of information concerning serials literature by reports and free discussion at general meetings and through publication; to encourage specialized training for librarians in the field of serials; and to coordinate the activities within the Resources and Technical Services Division and within the American Library Association with respect to serials (1).
