Files also include correspondence of Executive Director David H. Clift and documents dealing with the organization and reorganization of the ALA.
Biographical Note
Miriam Hornback worked for ALA for her entire career. She began as a junior secretary on June 12, 1944. Most notably, she was a longtime secretary to the ALA Council and Executive Board, and she was also a documenter of Council and Executive Board actions from 1969 to 1991. She served ALA for a total of 47 years. In that time, she worked with 47 presidents and seven executive directors, and she attended more than 80 Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings. She was a member of ALA for 38 years. She announced that she would retire in January 1992, but she died unexpectedly on April 1, 1991 [1]. ALA has an annual scholarship named in her honor [2].
