Biographical Note
Lawrence Auld was born on September 19, 1933, in Joplin, Missouri. He received a BA in English from the University of Northern Iowa and an MSLS from Columbia University before completing his DLS from the University of Illinois. Auld worked in several university libraries, including those at the University of Texas at Austin, Hawaii State Library of Hawaii, Oakland University, and Oregon State University before joining the faculty at the University of Illinois. At the latter institution, Auld served in several positions, including as the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School of Library Science. He then moved to East Carolina University where he chaired the department of Library and Information Sciences. He retired from East Carolina University in 2003.
Auld wrote or contributed to eight books and more than 40 articles over the course of his career. He passed away on March 2, 2023.
