Scope and Contents of the Materials

Files of the Information and Advisory Services Department containing statistical report returns from elementary school libraries (1935-41), and junior and senior high school libraries (1937-45), supervised by William H. Clift, Statistical Assistant, contains Elementary school library statistics, information concerning circulation figures, number of professionals and their salaries, junior and senior high school library statistics include information concerning student population, attendance, physical library facilities, volume and circulation figures, hours of operation, detailed expense figures, number of professionals and their salaries, cataloging facilities and evening school library program information. Note: the junior and senior high school library statistics files contains correspondence.

Biographical Note

This section was organized and approved by the governing board in June, 1957 (1). This section exercises responsibility for matters pertaining to the furtherance of efficient library operation in all types of libraries. Illustrative of the fields of interest covered are the theory and practices of library administration; library management research, experimentation, and evaluation; compilation, coordination, and interpretation of library statistics; and work simplification studies (1).
