Historical Note: The United States Army Signal Corps (USASC) provides support for the combined armed forces through the development and management of communication and information systems. The unit, originally named the Union Army Signal Corps, was founded by Dr. Albert James Myer on June 21, 1860. From the Civil War to the present day, the USASC has developed methods to improve military intelligence, weather forecasting, and aviation.
