Chelton is a retired professor of the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies at Queens College, CUNY, YALSA Past President, and co-founder of the Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA) publication. She received her doctorate at Rutgers University. She previously taught at Rutgers University and Emporia State University.
