Biblo, Herbert | The American Library Association Archives
Herbert Biblo (1924-2018) was a librarian and Executive Director of the Long Island Library Resources Council (LILRC) for thirty-five years [1]. He was a member of the ALA Council from 1977 to 1989, 1992 to 1996, and 1999-2002, and served as the ALA Treasurer from 1980 to 1984 [2]. Herb joined ALA’s Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) soon after it’s inception in 1969 and worked to promote social justice in librarianship until his death in 2018 [3]. In 2022, the SRRT created and gave the first Herb Biblo Outstanding Leadership Award for Social Justice & Equality, which has since been awarded annually in recognition of an individual for outstanding leadership in promoting social justice and/or equality within the library profession [4].
