Historical Note: Charles R. Green was the librarian of the Massachusetts Agricultural College (now the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts) in Amherst, Massachusetts. In 1918, he joined the staff of the Camp Johnston library in Florida as a special technical reference librarian. Soon after returning to Amherst, he became the first director and later Librarian Emeritus of the Jones Library.
