Historical Note: Marilyn L. Miller earned a B.S. in Education from the University of Kansas in 1952, as well as an A.M.L.S. (1959) and Ph.D. (1976) from the University of Michigan. She spent much of her career as an educator. She was Associate Professor in the School of Librarianship, Western Michigan Univeristy, an Associate Professor in the School of Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1977 to 1987, and Professor and Chair of the Department of Library Science and Instructional Technology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1987 until she retired in 1995, after which she was named Professor Emeritus. She held leadership positions in many professional associations. In addition to serving as President of ALA from 1992 to 1993, she also served as President of the Kansas Association of School Libraries, the Kansas Library Association, the Michigan Association for Media in Education, the Association for Services to Children, and the American Association of School Librarians [1]. She died May 22, 2014 [2].
