Name: Kranich, Nancy


Historical Note: Nancy Kranich earned an M.P.A. and completed Ph.D. work from the New York University Graduate School of Public Administration. She also earned an M.A. in Library Science and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin Madison. She spent much of her career at the New York University Libraries, where she was a Research and Development Librarian (1978-1980), Director of Administrative Services (1980-1989), Director of Public Services (1982-1992), and finally Associate Dean (1992-2001). She has been an active member of numerous professional associations. In addition to serving as ALA President from 2000 to 2001, she founded and currently chairs the ALA Center for Civic Life as well as the Libraries Foster Community Engagement Membership Initiative Group. She has been a member of ALA since 1974, and in 2015 she received ALA's Ken Haycock Award for the promotion of librarianship. She has also been involved with the Association of College and Research Libraries, the Library Administration and Management Association, and the American Society for Public Administration, among others. She is currently a Special Projects Librarian and part-time lecturer in Library and Information Science at Rutger's School of Communication and Information [1].
