Marketing of Public Library Services Section | The American Library Association Archives
Name: Marketing of Public Library Services Section
Historical Note:
On April 12 and 13, 1977, a PLA ad hoc committee met in Chicago and recommend that three additional sections be added to PLA. They were formally created the following June at the ALA Conference in Detroit. Two of these were the Metropolitan Libraries Section (MLS) and the Small and Medium-sized Libraries Section (SMLS) (1). Both would be charged with encouraging improvement of public library service in the communities each represented, and providing a forum for discussions of concerns unique to their type of library (2).
