Name: Community and Junior College Libraries Section


Historical Note:

The Community and Junior College Libraries Section of ACRL, similar to the College Libraries Section was one of the four sections originally established at the formation of ACRL in 1938. At that time its name was the Junior College Libraries Section (1). Not until June 28, 1973, at the ACRL Board of Directors meeting, was the name changed to the Community and Junior College Libraries Section (2).

The mission of the Community and Junior College Libraries Section is "to contribute to library science and librarianship through activities that relate to libraries and learning resources centers that support the educational programs in community and junior colleges and equivalent institutions" (3).

Currently the committees of the Community and Junior College Libraries sections include:

1) Archives/Historian

2) Conference Program Planning

3) Instruction in User Education

4) Membership/Communication

5) Nominating

6) Planning and Procedure

7) Services to Special Needs Students

8) Integrating New Technologies with LRC's (ad hoc)

9) Literacy Across the Curriculum (ad hoc) (4)

16) Sound Recordings and Slides
