Caption on the back reads: Germaine Krettek, Director of the ALA's Washington Office, visits President Richard Nixon, accompanying a delegation of sixteen representatives of the American Library Trustee Association (ALTA). President Nixon is greeting Miss Krettek while Mrs. Dorothy McAllister, then president of ALTA, looks on. The delegation had endorsed and pledged their support for the Administration's target "Right to Read" program, and at the same time had urged a re-ordering of national priorities and the appropriation of adequate funds for library and education programs.
It was Miss Krettek's assignment, as Director of the ALA Washington Office, to act as liaison for ALTA in organizing and making the arrangements with the White House for this important meeting.
