Photo shot from south of Green Street looking north across Green Street, the Silver Creek (Boneyard Creek), and the Champaign and Urbana Horse Railroad with the University Building ('The Elephant') in the center-left of the background and the old Mechanical Building in the center-right. Note: this scan is of the oldest known instance of this iconic image. It was made in 2019 from an original that at some point in the past (perhaps as early as ca. 1918) the image had been manually retouched to darken the lines of the Boneyard Creek, the roofs of the barns on the left, the 'Elephant,' and the armory on the right. In 2017, a photograph conservator removed the earlier retouching paint.
