Historical Note: Philipp P. Fehl was an artist and art historian.  Born in 1920 in Austria, he became a refugee and moved to the United States in 1941.  He became an artist, author, and lecture at several universities, until teaching at the University of Illinois from 1969-1990.  He retired as Professor Emeritus. In 1990, Fehl also initiated the Cicognara Project at the Vatican Library with his wife. Fehl held a number of office and received many awards for his works and writings.
