Brief Description:

Frederick Haynes Newell Papers, 1891, 1916, 1919, including copies of Results of Stream-measurements of the United States Geological Survey (1891) and a presentation copy of resume of previous work undertaken by J. A. Sargent, prepared for Colonel Theodore Roosevelt in hope of receiving letters of introduction from Roosevelt to M. Aristide Briand, French Premier, and to the Minister of Public Works of France, in order to conduct studies of "industrial preparedness, as co-ordinated with military preparedness in France and Switzerland."  Newell wrote a covering letter of introduction and recommendation for the proposal (1916).

The series includes "Romorantin, 1914-1917," an album containing postcards and photographs on the treatment of French wounded in World War I at Romorantin in Loir et Cher and a printed letter to Arthur H. Gerhard (Philadelphia) from Clemens F. von Pirquet (Wien), April 10, 1915, giving the Austro-Hungarian view of the war.
