Description: Stoddard Installation File, including papers covering the May 15-17, 1947 installation of George D. Stoddard as President of the University, including sample invitation, a guest list for a special Chicago-Urbana train, an installation program, papers on installation committee formation and proceedings, instructions for guests, Stoddard's article on "The Weapon of Education," (1943), newspaper clippings, a scrapbook, and "RSVP cards."ÃÂ The Scrapbook includes an article, "Notable Guests at Installation," identifying names and occupations of guests.ÃÂ An alphabetical correspondence file contains special folders for people heard from after the installation; invitations and telegrams.ÃÂ The correspondence concern arrangements for speakers; responses to invitations; arrangements made for honorary degrees; special train arrangements made by Wayne Johnston, President of Illinois Central; accommodations for guests; a list of Illini Clubs and club officers in other states; a TEXT of the banquet speech by Gen. Omar N. Bradley; TEXT of speeches by President George Stoddard, "The University of Illinois -- A Forward Look" and "Ferment in Education"; verses sent by William Tavendar and a copy of inauguration program of Dr. J. L. Morrill, President of the University of Minnesota.ÃÂ Correspondents include Archibald MacLeish, Omar N. Bradley and Sir John Orr.
