Brief Description: Duplicated Illinois Dairy Herd Improver published monthly for all Dairy Herd Improvement and Owner-Sampler plan cooperators, DHI supervisors and county extension advisors in agriculture and containing information on production records and monthly averages for each association.  Until 1970, this series was known as "Timely Tips for Dairymen," and served as news reports of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association in Illinois, mailed directly to the farmer participating in DHIA testing programs, providing information on feeding and maintaining the herd, processing the milk, sire lists and breeding records and seasonal activities necessary to maintenance of herds.

Biographical Note for University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Department of Dairy Science :

The establishment of a dairy at the University of Illinois was first recommended in 1876 in the Head Farmer's report.1 In 1902, Dairy Husbandry was recognized as an independent department under the College of Agriculture.2 The Department of Dairy Husbandry became the Department of Dairy Production in 1947.3 In 1949, the name of the Department was changed again and became the Dairy Science Department.4 In 1985, the department merged into the Animal Science Department.
