Letterpress copybooks containing copies of correspondence of Katherine L. Sharp, head librarian (1897-1907), sent to President Edmund J. James, deans, department heads, faculty, publishers, book dealers and administrators of other libraries, relating to library administration, faculty committees and meetings, departmental budgets, staff requests, recruitment of staff and staff salaries, equipment, printing and binding, selection and acquisition of books and periodicals, inter-library loans and related topics.  Information relating to library administration prior to 1906 is in Director's Letterbooks, 1896-1907, Records Series 18/1/1.

Correspondents include the John Crerar Library, Edmund J. James, David Kinley and A.C. McClurg and Company.

The series includes a letter to Edmund J. James, relating to the creation of a traveling library in Illinois (11/21/06).
