Description: Irish Foundation Series, Volume 1, the Life of Columcille, published by the University Press under the auspices of the Graduate College. The material for the life of the Irish saint was compiled by Manus O'Donnell in 1532, edited and translated from manuscript Rawlinson B.514 in the Bodleian Library, Oxford, with introduction, glossary, notes and indices by A. O'Kelleher and Gertrude Schoepperle. During the years 1901-1914, sections 1-157 were edited and translated by Richard Henebry and sections 157-232 by O'Kelleher. The work was brought to completion when in 1916, the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago, being encouraged by University President James, guaranteed a stipend for the establishment of a Research Fellowship in Gaelic. Rev. A. O'Kelleher was appointed and devoted almost two years to completing the Life of Columcille.
