Administrative History of Creating Unit

On June 15, 1966 the Board of Trustees established the Office of Chancellor for the Champaign-Urbana campus.¹The Chancellor is appointed by the Board of Trustees following nomination by the President. The Chancellor performs those duties that are assigned to him by the President and that are consistent with the Statutes of the University and the actions of the Board of Trustees. The Chancellor is assisted by vice-chancellors for academic affairs, administrative affairs, campus affairs, and research.

The Office of Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, established April 19, 1967, is aided by an Associate Vice-Chancellor and Director of the Office of Planning and Evaluation.²

Responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for Campus Affairs, effective October 1, 1972, are the divisions of housing, parking and transportation, telecommunications, the Illini Union, and the Assembly Hall. ³

On October 1, 1972, the Division of Operations and Maintenance came under the authority of the Vice-Chancellor for Administrative Affairs.

The Office of Vice-Chancellor for Research and Dean of the Graduate College grew out of the Office of Associate Vice-Chancellor for Research and Development, formerly under the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs.⁴

Description: Copies of self study reports submitted to the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools' Commission on Colleges and Universities' in anticipation of Ten-Year Review Visits to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, including an institutional profile volume (1969) containing descriptions of thirty-four colleges and offices and discussions of strengths and limitations; a basic institutional volume containing sections on educational programs, control and administration, student data, faculties, instructional programs, libraries, physical and financial resources and statistical analyses, tables and schedules and a basic institutional data supplement containing published documents relating to the University.Â The 1979 report includes a self-study report with appendices, an abstract of the self-study report, a list of reference materials and a basic institutional data report.Â This series also includes a copy of the 2000 North Central Association Report submitted to The Chancellor, concerning accreditation issues and The Chief Illiniwek Controversy.
