Description: Printed and illustrated promotional and descriptive publications concerning the curriculum, physical plant and accomplishments of the School of Railway Engineering. The series includes a Spanish edition (1907), railway conference proceedings (1910), Charles Seley's address on railway legislation (1912), Edward C. Schmidt's paper on the locomotive laboratory, prepared for a meeting of the Western Railway Club (1913), a bulletin on the locomotive laboratory (1915) and a brochure on the railway dynamometer test car and steel rail and flanged wheel research (1949). Established in January 1906, the Department of Railway Engineering offered courses in railway, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering and in railway administration. The series includes a brochure on "Railroads and the University of Illinois" (ca. 1949) and an article on "Locomotive Testing Stations" by D.R. Carling (1972).
