Biographical Note for Alpha Phi Alpha : Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity for Black college students, was founded at Cornell University in 1906. The Tau Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha was established at the University of Illinois in 1917 from the local Beta Pi fraternity.
